Relaxation Massage vs Deep Tissue Massage: What’s the Difference?

Updated: Sep 14, 2025

A person receives a back massage in a calming room. The masseuse's hands gently press on relaxed skin. Text reads "Relaxing massage."
Many clients ask: “What’s the difference between a relaxation massage and a deep tissue massage?”

The truth is that their goals and techniques are different:

  • Relaxation Massage: Gentle to medium pressure, designed to relieve tension, reduce stress, and help you feel calm and relaxed.

  • Deep Tissue Massage: Firmer pressure, targeting deeper muscles and fascia, ideal for chronic muscle pain, tight posture, or post-workout recovery.

Summary: If you just want to relax your body and mind, choose a relaxation massage. If you have long-term aches or stiffness, a deep tissue massage may be more suitable.
